The Nissan X-Trail is an SUV for the urban jungle, and is a competent product with a strong all-round appeal. Stylistically, the new Nissan X-Trail is more evolutionary than revolutionary, but it is a design that works well; the Nissan X-Trail has real presence. On the inside, it reverts to a more conventional placement for the instruments, unlike the previous generation where they were located in the center of the dashboard. The Nissan X-Trail’s 4WD system is electronically activated and comes with differential locks, but then the car may not necessarily be subjected to serious mud plugging. The calling card of the new Nissan X-Trail will be its 2.5-liter common-rail diesel engine.
The 2488cc engine variant with cast steel connecting rods, a steel timing chain, counter-rotating balance-shafts, and an aluminum intake manifold. The engine bore is 89 mm with a stroke of 100 mm and a compression ratio of 9.5:1.
The same 2488cc engine, which produces 154 horsepower can also be found in the Nissan Frontier and Suzuki Equator, and provides the Nissan X-Trail with very good performance and drivability. The Nissan X-Trail will go head-to-head with the Honda CR-V, Mitsubishi Outlander, and Chevrolet Captiva, but while the Chevrolet Captiva has seven seats, the Nissan X-Trail has only five, and that limits its appeal some what.
