Skateboarding Tips – How To Avoid Looking Like You’re A Newbie
Skateboarding, really – how tough can it be? You’re only just standing, is that right? But wait, is it true the board will do the work? When you’re just starting, you may be thinking these questions. If you don’t already know, you’ll discover very quickly there’s more to skating than merely standing on a moving board. So there are some skills involved, it will take some practice to get those skills, too.
Bottom line, you must put some practice time into it. It’s really a good idea to have some skills with the basics before moving on to more advanced skating. Next up, some really important things you’ll want to know if you’re new to skateboarding. By the way, you should definitely check out the GoPro camera, it is very good to bring along when you go skating. Here is a GoPro HD HERO review.
You may find it taking just a little bit of time to decide which foot is best in front and in back. Forget about if you’re right or left-handed. Doesn’t matter like batting in baseball. You’ll need to determine which leg is dominant. So try and visualize how you go about approaching things. Think back – when you kick a ball, which side do you do it with? When climbing stairs, what leg/foot is the first step up taken with? If you ever trip and start to fall, if you can catch yourself – which foot always goes out first? Your answer to those questions is your dominant leg, and it usually stays toward the rear of the board. It really has to do with your dominant, or stronger, leg and nothing to do with the direction you want to face. Don’t buy your first board from a department store, the best way to go is from a skaters shop. It’s just that the people at a skate shop will know what you need to start with. Most newbies use an ABEC board in the beginning. But until you try some different boards and get a feel for them, you won’t know for sure what’s best. Employees in a skate shop will be better prepared to help you than anywhere else. Their suggestions will be meant to help you, and they know better, so be sure to pay attention to them. They really do know what’s going on!
Goofy and Regular are two basic stances you’ll want to learn. In the Regular stance you stand with your left foot in front and your right foot in back. For the Goofy – just do the opposite! There are four different kinds of push-offs you can do. Regular (use your right foot to push), Mongo Regular: push with your front (right) foot, Goofy (use your left foot), and Mongo Goofy: push with your front (left) foot. Just keep skating and in time you’ll find which one you like best.
There’s much more to skateboarding than simply riding on a flat board. Skateboards have become an accepted way to travel reasonable distances, plus they’re fun to ride. The trick to becoming better at skateboarding is to open your mind to learning. It won’t fail you. Last but not least, don’t forget to read this GoPro Motorsports HERO review.
