Don’t buy your first board from a department store, the best way to go is from a skaters shop. You’ll need to use a board that’s best for you, and a skate shop will be able to recommend one just for you. Most newbies use an ABEC board in the beginning. But until you try some different boards and get a feel for them, you won’t know for sure what’s best. Employees in a skate shop will be better prepared to help you than anywhere else. Learn the skaters jargon, and also learn the different kinds of skateboards. There are many different types of skateboards out there and not all boards are the same. It’s a good idea to learn the differences and what each one means to a skater. It’s really helpful to be able to understand the meaning behind certain skating terms.
