Axles

Two types of axles - live and dead, are used with the vehicles.

Live Axle

Live axle contains the differential mechanism and the engine power flows through it towards the wheels.

Dead Axle

The dead axle is a dummy one and is the axle of not connected to the engines power. The dead axle, if it is the front axle, consists of the main beam of 'I' section, at both ends of which are fitted the stub axles by means of king-pins. The stub axles are free to moving the vehicle to different directions.
