Body or Carriage Portion

It is that portion of an automobile where the passengers have their seats or where the cargo to be carried is placed.

The body is designed according to the nature of load to be carried. It is made of either plastic or Carbon fiber, steel, aluminum or as in the old days wood with steel reinforcement.

In the case of trucks and tractors, the body is split up into two parts - Cab and Body.

  • Cab - The Cab is a driver's cabin where the driver sits to operate the vehicle.
  • Body - The Body is the main portion where the goods to be carried are placed.

The body of an ordinary truck consists of floor, walls, tail board, i.e., gate for the body, superstructure and tarpaulin.
